Adelboden
The resort of Adelboden is a picturesque village which boasts an extensive infrastructure. It has gained the prestigious Swiss "family-friendly" seal of approval and as such offers facilities and assistance specifically for families. Entertainment is essentially informal and based around the restaurants and bars in the resort.
The Adelboden ski area is hardly known in the UK, which is a real pity as it offers a great range of slopes for both the beginner and intermediate skier. With beautiful scenery and plenty of good mountain restaurants it is a pleasure to explore the diverse ski areas, both above and below the tree line.
The main ski circuit is accessed from Adelboden by gondola at Oey. Whilst perhaps not the highest ski area, the predominance of north-facing slopes keep the snow well. More able skiers will want to test themselves on the black runs beneath the Luegli chairlift, however the area is ideal for intermediates looking to get miles under their skis.
The scenery is more gentle but no less pleasing to the eye and there are ample mountain restaurants at which to stop, take in the view and sample the excellent cuisine. Beginners and intermediates will find plenty of gentle blue runs on which to progress and gain confidence.
There are four additional areas including Lenk which are covered on the lift pass and easily accessible from Adelboden. If you take a six day Adelboden lift pass, you can ski one day in the main sector of the Gstaad Super ski area covering St Stephan, Zweisimmen and Saanenmöser.
