Grindelwald
Grindelwald, the internationally famed glacier village is set either side of the road at the base of a beautiful mountain valley. It is at the foot of one of Europe’s most daunting mountaineering challenges, the north face of the Eiger, and the sheer mountain face dominates this pretty village.
The slopes offer a mix of wooded runs and open slopes higher up and from all across the ski area, there are superb views of the Eiger. If the snow is good there are some excellent off-piste opportunities.
The annual International Snow Festival, 17-22 January 2011, provides an entertaining alternative to skiing, with spectacular snow carvings on display. For something different, brave the 15km sledge run from the Faulhorn back down to the village. From Kleine Scheidegg you can take a train through the Eiger to the highest railway station in Europe - Jungfraujoch at 3450m, at the top
is a viewing tower with fantastic views of the Aletsch glacier, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Après ski is varied and plentiful and ranges from the sophisticated to the casual.
