Lenk and Adelboden
The two resorts of Lenk and Adelboden are essentially quite different in character. Adelboden is the larger of the villages and boasts the more extensive infrastructure, whilst Lenk has established itself as a top ski resort, previously hosting the British Ski Championships. Both centres have gained the prestigious Swiss "family friendly" seal of approval and as such offer facilities and assistance specifically for families. Entertainment is informal and based around the restaurants and bars in the resort.
The Ski Area
The Lenk/Adelboden ski are is hardly known in the UK, which is a real pity as it offers a great range of slopes for both the beginner and intermediate skier. With beautiful scenery and plenty of good mountain restaurants, it is a pleasure to explore the various and diverse ski areas, both above and below the tree line.
The main ski circuit between the two resorts is accessed from Adelboden by gondola at Oey and via cable car from the Metsch, 2km south of Lenk. Whilst perhaps not the highest ski area, the predominance of north facing slopes keep the snow well. More able skiers will want to test themselves on the black runs beneath the Luegli chairlift, however the area is ideal for intermediates looking to build ski miles. The scenery is more gentle but no less pleasing to the eye and there are ample mountain restaurants at which to stop, take in the view and sample the excellent cuisine.
Beginners and nervous intermediates will find plenty of gentle blue runs on which to progress. There are four additional areas covered on the pass, most easily accessible from Adelboden, however the slopes on the Betelberg above Lenk are particularly worthy of note as they tend to be less busy.
Lenk is also well placed for skiers wishing to take advantage of an interesting offer, which greatly extends the ski area. If you take a six-day Lenk-Adelboden lift pass, you can ski one day in the main sector of the Gstaad Super Ski Area covering St. Stephan, Zweisimmen and Saanenmöser. St. Stephan is only 8 minutes away from Lenk by train and is well worth the price of the return day ticket.
