Wengen
Wengen has strong historical links with the earliest British skiers in the Alps and remains a very popular choice for ski holidays to Switzerland. The resort is set on a shelf high above the Lauterbrunnen valley, opposite Mürren, and can only be reached by cog railway form Lauterbrunnen itself. The railway carries on up the mountain as one of the the two main access routes to the pistes. The Mannlichen cable car, in the heart of the village, takes just 6 minutes to reach the slopes.
The main street is the hub of the village, lined with chalet-style shops and hotels, with an ice rink and the village nursery slopes close by. The nursery slopes double as the venue for floodlit ski-jumping, parallel slalom races and occasional ski school shows - there is so much to do here on a ski holiday. The resort is famous for the annual Lauberhorn race which will take place on the 14th-16th January 2011.
Non-skiers will find a wide range of activities to keep them entertained, including tobogganing, hiking, ice skating and snowshoe walking.
