Engelberg
Engelberg is a long-established, year round, bustling resort. Surrounded by three spectacular mountain ranges, and dominated by the imposing Mount Titlis, Engelberg is at the end of an open valley.
The resort features a wide variety of bars and restaurants with folklore evenings and live music. Non skiers may wish to visit the impressive 12th century monastery famous for its cheese making or use the regular train to visit the city of Lucerne, less than an hour away.
With guaranteed snow on the glacier of the impressive Mount Titlis, Engelberg offers a a good range of skiing, best suited to the intermediate, despite the modest size of the ski area. The skiing is effectively split in two, with the main area on the north facing slopes of the Jochpass and Titlis areas. It is here at Jochpass where snowboarders will find the halp-pipe and boarder cross runs. Intermediates will bein their element with long red runs between Trübsee and Stand, whereas advanced skiers can try the awe inspiring Laub off piste run, a steep wall descending 1000m form the shoulder of the Titlis.
From Stand you must take the spectacular Rotair revolving cable car (which rotates a full 360 during the journey) up to the summit of Titlis (3020m) giving you access to some of the finest views in the Alps. For less challenging and sunnier slopes, skiers should head for the cable car from the village to Ristis and the Brunni area. Here children are particularly well catered for in the Yeti Park and the ski school has some excellent facilities for the youngsters whilst parents will enjoy the long red and blue runs extending down from the Schonegg summit.
