Arosa
Arosa is renowned for having more hours of sunshine than anywhere in Switzerland! It is an excellent choice for a family holiday thanks largely to excellent child facilities and instruction at the reputable ski school and the new and unique Alpen Club 'Micky Maus'. Non-skiers will find horse drawn sleigh rides, prepared winter walking paths and nordic walking trails, many within the ski area enabling you to walk to the mountain restaurants. Children are well catered for too, with many activities both on and off snow geared towards them.
The winding up road from Chur ends in Arosa, so you will find no through traffic, instead the snow covered streets are served by horse drawn sleigh and sledges. The resort offers both casual stübli as well as more sophisticated bars to tempt you after returning from the slopes. The casino complex includes a cinema, casino, bar and nightclub. There is also the opportunity to go night skiing under the full moon or every Friday when the piste is floodlit.
The Ski Area
Arosa's two compact interconnecting ski areas form an efficient network of downhill runs with almost all the skiing above the treeline. There are plenty of wide-open confidence boosting runs, which are ideal for the beginner and intermediate skier. The highest point at the Weisshorn is reached by two cable cars.
The mid-station at Tschuggen is where the main beginners slopes can be found. The mid-station is one of the main focal points for the runs with lifts fanning out both to the Hörnli, which itself is served by gondola lift from Inner Arosa, and the Brüggerhorn. Black runs are from the Weisshorn direction. Families and early intermediates, however, will find the uncrowded, wide-open pistes a joy. Non-skiers can meet up with skiers for lunch on the mountain. A free ski bus service runs from the village to Inner Arosa, the Hörnli and, for cross country skiers, up to Maran.
