Laax
The resorts of Flims and Laax are set on a terrace above the Rhine Gorge. The village of Flims is in two parts. Flims Waldhaus and Flims Dorf, which are about 1km apart.
Flims Dorf is the more animated of the two parts with a number of après ski bars, hotels and restaurants set along the main road. Flims Waldhaus is quieter with hotels interspersed among the trees. Here you will find most of the nightlife based around the hotel bars.
The Ski Area
The Laax ski area is one of the most extensive and yet least known ski areas to British guests. It offers an exciting range of skiing with guaranteed snow throughout the season on the Vorab glacier.
The resort is particularly well suited to the high mileage intermediate skier and boarder as the well planned and efficient lift system opens out an impressive array of long pistes. Multiple access points from the valley ensure that skiers are speedily transported up the mountain to the heart of the network. Advanced skiers will certainly want to make their way up to the summit of Cassons to test themselves on the unprepared runs back down to Naraus.
The majority of the easier ski runs are to be found in the Nagens area where you will find a wealth of beginner and intermediate runs to gain confidence. Sogn Gion is a focal point for skiers and snowboarders as a number of lifts and runs fan out from here down to Falera and Laax. There are a variety of long, undulating and exhilarating runs, which will keep intermediates busy for days. Snowboarders will find their mecca here too. There are three half pipes, two boarder parks and one mini boarder cross. Higher up the mountain there are gentle runs from the top of the Vorab glacier, whilst there is a stamina sapping 12km descent from the summit of La Siala. This run features in an annual open ski race, whcih drops all the way back down to the village.
