Villars
Overlooking the Rhône Valley, the views from the resort are stunning. Mont Blanc is clearly visible and its southerly aspect means Villars gets more than its fair share of sunshine.
The lift pass covers 220km prepared pistes and includes Villars Gryon and the connecting glacier resort of Les Diablerets. It also provides access to Leysin and Les Mosses which can be reached by road. There is a nursery area in the village for complete beginners but most will prefer to tackle the extensive area of Betraye which is ideally suited for those looking to progress. Alternatively, skiers can reach the heart of the network via the Roc d'Orsay gondola. Intermediates will love the wide and well groomed pistes, served by 75 lifts. From Betraye you will find network of runs fanning out on either side of the valley. Runs reach down to La Rasses, which links the Villars and Gryon ski areas. From here you can access the Chaux Ronde summit 2020m, which offers a long, cruising run descending 800m to Gryon. Access to the Diablerets glacier is possible from Betraye via Tete du Meilleret and cable car from the village of Les Diablerets. Snowboarders are well catered for with snow parks at Betraye, Les Chaux, Isenau and Les Diablerets. The well groomed, wide pistes offer carvers and boarders alike ample opportunity to hone their skills.
For a more traditional night out, join the ski school for a fondue at Bretaye followed by a torch lit descent back to the resort. non-skiers need not miss out on the fun either as they can take the train, which follows most of the route back to town at the end of the evening. A 24-hour celebrity ski race takes place in mid January. Villars has been officially recognised as a "family friendly resort" by the Swiss authorities.
