DAVOS - ZERMATT - GRINDELWALD

We've selected Switzerland's most beautiful train journeys for this winter rail tour which takes you on a series of awe- inspiring train journeys through the beauty and majestic splendour of the Swiss Alps. Ride the Bernina Express, the highest rail journey in Europe, and take your seat on the fabulous Glacier Express, a train journey that passes through glacier regions and mountain passes, through tunnels and over bridges and, at its peak, reaches the dizzying height of 2,033m. This stunning tour will appeal to anyone wanting to see the magical, snow-covered landscapes and enchanting beauty of the Swiss Alps, as well as wanting to enjoy the world-class resorts of Davos and Grindelwald.
Day 1. Arrive at Zurich Airport, collect your luggage and make your way to the railway station, for your rail transfer to Davos. Enjoy the scenic journey to Davos Platz (approx 2hrs 40mins). On arrival, you'll be met and transferred to the 4-star Sunstar Parkhotel, your base for the next two nights.
Day 2. Take the famous Bernina Express from Davos to Tirano (approx 4hrs journey time). The highest rail journey in Europe, this unique train trip takes around four hours. Climbing to an incredible 2,253 metres above sea level it connects northern and southern Switzerland in a truly relaxed and uniquely beautiful way. This amazing experience takes you past icy glaciers and frozen waterfalls, over towering viaducts and through winding tunnels, taking in magnificent scenery and stunning landscapes along the way. A fascinating and unforgettable journey, it’s the perfect way to absorb the tranquil beauty of the Alps. After a short break in Tirano return journey by train to Davos.
Day 3. Today’s journey takes you from Davos to Zermatt aboard the world-famous Glacier Express. The 7hr 30min journey meanders through breathtaking scenery before ascending the Oberalp Pass at over 2000m. Seats are reserved in panoramic carriages and there is a restaurant car or in-seat catering on the train if you wish to enjoy a relaxing lunch. On arrival in the charming, car-free resort of Zermatt, you’ll be transferred to the 4-star Sunstar Style Hotel Zermatt, your base for the next two nights.
Day 4. Day at leisure in Zermatt. Enjoy free use of the stylish spa facilities in the hotel or explore the wonderful resorts and its attractions. Take the gondola up the Matterhorn Glacier at 3,883m to enjoy panoramic views of the Italian and Swiss Alps, enjoy the historic Gornergrat Railway or discover the Matterhorn Museum, a state-of-the-art sunken world delving into Zermatt’s past.
Day 5. Continue your journey into the beautiful Bernese Oberland region to Grindelwald via Interlaken Ost (East). On Arrival in Grindelwald, you’ll be transferred to the 4-star
Sunstar Grindelwald for your final two nights accommodation.
Day 6. Day at leisure in famous Grindelwald situated at the foot of the Eiger. Take advantage of your free day with your Swiss Flexi Pass to explore the local region by train, enjoy Grindelwald’s ice rink free of charge with your tourist card or travel at a reduction to the Jungfraujoch, at 3,454m the highest railway station in Europe and overlooking the UNESCO World Heritage Jungfrau-Aletsch glacier. Of course, there’s always the fantastic choice of skiing and winter activities to enjoy too. We can pre-book lift passes and equipment if you wish to ski or snowboard.
Day 7. Check out of your hotel and take your rail transfer back to Zurich Airport for your return flight home, or if you prefer, extend your holiday by adding on additional nights in Grindelwald, another resort or a city stay in Zurich.
